Necessity is the Mother of Invention
Last year the Vietnamese government made a decision not to extend the electricity infrastructure to a few poor communities. So Le Vu Cuong, native of the Red River and now a college lecturer at local Hanoi University helped one Vietnamese slum power-up for just $44.00 USD. With an invention that he dreamed up in just a few months, they built a farm containing 10 turbines that could run at wind speeds as low as 0.4 m/s. Recycled goods such as; pairs of bowls to form blades and old printers serving as generators which create the current that gets stored in old motor cycle batteries. When in use, they illuminate lamps with the brightness equal to that of 45-Watt light bulb. Each system creates less than 1KW on average for each family's usage and is even helping a pottery makers business increase productivity time. She can now allocated the marginal profits from the sales of her pots to other purposes. Check it out in this video.
