Mickey says: "Go For The Ribs"
Excited and weary at the thought of going back to grad school.

This time, I am moving away from business Generalist to wind business Specialist. Tomorrow I continue on this road with a new milestone, enrollment in my Graduate Certificate program in Wind Energy Management at Texas Tech University.
For the last two years, I have been in the preparation phase of my career transition plan to renewables. So, I am super excited to be amongst other professionals, learning about wind farm development and economics. I am even more thrilled that we will have real-life case studies from DNV GL (the safety and sustainability advisory giant)
On the other hand, I am jittery as I reflect on the last time I was in grad school. No sleep again? Am I up to the task of sustained sacrifice needed to make my vision a reality? Plus this past summer, my two years of efforts culminated in several interviews at Siemens Gamesa, General Electric, TPI Composites etcetera, A period that have been ripe with disappointments (a.k.a. "learning opportunities").
It felt like the proverbial kick-in-the-gut every time I would see emails that read: "Thank you for interviewing.......we have moved forward with another candidates....". Then I remember the fight scene in the movie Rocky IV, when Rocky Balboa's fought Ivan Drago. Mickey, Rocky's coach shouts at him from the corner of the ring; "go for the ribs". So tonight, I remember to keep one eye on the future while keeping the other on the next steps. I continue the fight by punching away at my goals even when I'm tired. The next few punches will bring victory!
In the next rounds, I will be more equipped to make a better case to employers about how a "leaper" like myself could bring value to their business units. First, its starts with getting intimately familiar with the wind business concepts and strategies.
