Excited and weary at the thought of going back to grad school. This time, I am moving away from business Generalist to wind business Specialist. Tomorrow I continue on this road with a new milestone, enrollment in my Graduate Certificate program in Wind Energy Management at Texas Tech University. For the last two years, I have been in the preparation phase of my career transition plan to renewables. So, I am super excited to be amongst other professionals, learning about wind farm development and economics. I am even more thrilled that we will have real-life case studies from DNV GL ( the safety and sustainability advisory giant ) On the other hand, I am jittery as I reflect on the last time I was in grad school. This week, I am at WINDPOWER learning all about the wind industry players here in sunny Anaheim, California. The exhibits are beautifully assembled, the workshops/talks/presentations are informative and the networking opportunities are abundant. However, we have all experienced typical conference activities. Therefore, I bring to you some of the fun/interesting happenings that enhanced this year's 4day conference from AWEA 2017. Watt about the Windward Islands?

I would admit that I had a smile on my face, when I learned that the chain of island nations, the Windward Islands (Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent , Grenada) have the strongest wind resource in the Caribbean. I've always felt the breeze when I lived home in St. Vincent. But why is this that so? What are their plans to maximize this resource? Seems like that the currents from west Africa flow directly into these islands, creating channels of airflow that make sailing much easier. In the days of Columbus, they were know as Tradewinds . Today, the Ministries of Energy in each nation plan to get to 35% renewable energy production by 2020. Their primary drivers for said goals are to create jobs and to protect the vulnerability of the shorelines. According to IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency), rising sea levels is a phenomena faced by many islands nations across the globe.
